A Note on Future Blogging September 14, 2008

I’ve never been a consistent poster unless it’s been a holiday time. Of course, school is a priority over the blog, severely limiting opportunities during the week. Thus, I ask you not to expect me to blog much during the week. Instead, I’ll do my blogging on Friday nights or the weekend in general if I get a chance. Thanks for your understanding.

On other things, I will once again do a Top 30 Prospects segment, but I’m not sure if it will be with the same quickness that I did last year (I did have a broken bone in my foot then, after all). It will be done after the Hawaii and Arizona Leagues, though. Moreover, more immediately, after the end of the season, I will do an offseason outlook section on the Yankees–it will include next year’s committments, their own free agents, options, and players from the outside to look at.

That concludes the blogging for tonight. Thanks for reading.

Sorry about the lack of updates–it was the end of the term, so I was very busy. Tomorrow I’ll give insight on the roster competitions, the spring training games (intrasquad and against USF), how much Kei Igawa sucks, and the end of the Transitional Yankees after 2009.

…so I’ll cover the Clemens and Pettitte drama, more spring training stuff, and roster previews tomorrow. Sorry about the delay.

What Do You Want to See? January 25, 2008

There hasn’t been much going on lately–that is, of course, until pitchers and catchers report–so I’d like to know what you, the readers, want to see here. I decided that the Scout segment would take up a lot of time I don’t have, so do you have any other ideas and suggestions. All are appreciated and will be taken under consideration. Thanks!

Phil Hughes Starts a Blog January 17, 2008

Phil Hughes has started a weblog. It happens to have the same theme as YLF, and in limited posts he seems to be a strong writer. I left a comment in his first post.

I’m really excited when fan favorites start blogs–it’s amazing, and the fans feel an almost personal connection with the player. This is especially true for the much-hyped and much-beloved Hughes. I think we all wish him success.

On another note, thanks for all of the responses at my pinch-hitting post over at PeteAbe’s blog. Thanks for all of the positive responses, and I welcome all you new readers to the YLF community.

Introducing a new segment, Looking Around. This highlights interesting posts from other blogs that you can take a nice look out. It won’t be all the time, since I intend to actually write about the Yankees, but the ones that are here are unique. So here are some interesting posts you might have fun reading:

Enjoy!

Tomorrow, as you know, the piece from YLF will be published at Peter Abraham’s blog tomorrow in the guest blogging experience. I look forward to having all of you reading and enjoying it, and, of course, have more readers come to our site.

Mailbag #1 January 12, 2008

Presenting…our first ever mailbag! We had two-emails this week:

If Melky is traded as part of a Santana deal, who plays CF for the Yanks this year? Does Damon move back, or do they pickup a stopgap until Austin Jackson is ready?–Eric

Great question. I don’t think Damon moves back, because Damon is on the decline in every aspect of his game, most notably range and speed. Mike Cameron would have been a great stopgap, but he has already signed with the Brewers. That leaves us with Brett Gardner. Gardner is a speedy, slap-hitting outfielder with an outstanding glove. He has good plate discipline, and an arm between Damon’s and Melky’s. He is just about major-league ready, and is a low-ceiling pick, such that he can easily transition to the fourth-outfielder slot that would be vacant. All that said, I don’t think Melky gets traded, unless it involves a, say, Damaso Marte deal.

Here’s a question: How will YankeeLand feel at the end of the year when the Red Sox repeat? And a follow-up question:
How do the Yankees feel about finishing in second place and below the next several years?….or at least until ARod leaves? Just wondering from a Boston Fan’s curiosity. Thanks in advance!

Very funny. Ask me again at the end of the season, when the Tigers knock you out.

Thanks for all of the questions, and continue e-mailing pzevallos216@hotmail.com for another mailbag next week!

Please send e-mails in for the mailbag! I only have one, and would like more. Either way, I will do it tomorrow. I will also start “The Scout” segment soon–say, next week?

Tomorrow I will also opine on the questionable BA Top 10 prospects list for the Yankees. I’ll preview by saying #’s 6-10 are wrongly placed.

Good night everyone!

Another New Segment Idea January 4, 2008

I was thinking of making a new segment called, The Scout. The Scout would give scouting reports/player evaluations, ways to evaluate and grade players, and offer predictions for some key games. Thoughts?
